Eric and Karen took a high-speed train from Barcelona to Paris and on to Rome. They spent another week or so traveling around southern Italy. |
For orientation.....
The high speed train from Malaga to Barcelona is a 4-hour trip
Some general observations:
English is spoken in many places.
The Spaniards were wonderful. We really appreciated their ability to laugh, friendliness and their hospitality.
People will go out of their way to help you even if they don't speak your language.
Spain is much more arid than I'd expected.
In the cities, half the cars are Taxis.
All the cars are smaller than ours.
We would consider them aggressive drivers but it's just the way it is. No one seems to get upset.
On a multilane highway, if the car in front turns on his turn signal, he's not asking to change lanes, he's coming over.
Likewise he will re-enter the right lane immediately.
When turning right expect another stoplight immediately at the crosswalk.
Pedestrians have and expect the right-of-way. Don't even think about bluffing them back onto the sidewalk!
Don't visit Barcelona the same weekend we did. They were celebrating something and it got CRAZY! (All good though)
You can drive 300km and never loose site of an olive tree!
If you don't like olives, don't tell anyone.
Food was expensive in the restaurants. If you can't afford it, don't eat!
Food in the grocery stores was reasonable.
Gas was about $7.50/gallon. Be glad ours is less that $4.00
Everyone drinks bottled water.
